Washington Redskins’ quarterback Robert Griffin III failed to deliver against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 11 NFL action.
Robert Griffin III was selected with the second overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, and were hoping that he would turn into the franchise quarterback that they desperately needed.

That appeared to be the case during Griffin’s rookie season with the Redskins, as he led them to a 10-6 record and first place in the NFC East division. Washington lost in the playoffs, but it still appeared that they were on the right track heading into the future. Unfortunately for the Redskins, Griffin injured his knee and the downfall began.
Griffin hasn’t been anything close to his rookie form over the last couple of seasons, and the Redskins are beginning to question whether or not he is their future at quarterback. He simply hasn’t been able to lead his team to wins, stay healthy, or play consistent football. Turnovers have become a much bigger concern with him, and he isn’t able to play the way that made him dangerous during his rookie season.
There was quite a bit of talk this past week from the media and Griffin himself about whether or not he was the future at quarterback for the Redskins. Griffin made it very clear that he felt that Washington was his team, and that he would lead them forward.
Following the Redskins’ game against Tampa Bay, his status as the franchise quarterback is in even more question. The fans were very clear that they didn’t want Griffin on the field, and even began chanting that they wanted Colt McCoy at one point during the game. Things are falling apart around Griffin, and the Redskins are going to be forced to make a decision over the next week or two about whether or not to stick with him.
Tampa Bay is not a good football team, and for Washington to lose by a final score of 27-7 was simply unacceptable. Griffin threw for 207 yards, one touchdown, and also threw two interceptions on the day. One of those interceptions was an easy touchdown return for Johnathan Banks.
All of that being said, the future is extremely murky for Griffin and the Redskins. They still believe that he has the potential to be the franchise quarterback that they drafted him to be, but he hasn’t showed that talent since his rookie season. There have been flashes here and there throughout the last couple of seasons, but for the most part it has been disappointing and injury plagued for him.
After all of the talking that Griffin did this past week about being the guy to lead the Redskins, this type of performance was exactly what he didn’t need. It’s going to be extremely difficult for him to win the fans back moving forward, and it may never end up working out for him in Washington.
