Adrian Peterson could reportedly receive punishment from the NFL for his child abuse misdemeanor conviction as soon as Monday.
The dance between Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and the NFL could come to an end on Monday. Sources indicated to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen that the league could hand down punishment ‘as soon as Monday’.

We might have known Peterson’s fate sooner had the running back not bailed on his meeting with the league, citing it being ‘inconsistent with the CBA‘.
“I’m sorry for all of this, but I can’t excuse their refusal to be fair,” Peterson wrote at the end of his explanation for having blown off the NFL. The irony in that sentence may or may not have exploded the pen or keyboard used to create it.
Peterson was originally placed on the commissioner’s exempt list after being charged with felony child abuse. He later worked that down to a misdemeanor charge, which lessens the expected punishment from the league. However, the league has taken longer than anyone expected to dole out punishment. This pause was followed up by a request for a hearing, which Peterson initially seemed to accept.
After consulting with the union though, Adrian Peterson decided to opt out of the hearing and just let the NFL do what it does, which may or may not be catastrophic to what playing time he can salvage in 2014. We’ll know just how damaging his decision was possibly as soon as Monday.
