Robert Griffin III made his return to the Washington Redskins after missing six games with an ankle injury, his third major leg injury in the past five years, and didn’t take long to force a pass into the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense.
Watch in the video below as Griffin tosses the early pick:
That’s Bucs linebacker Danny Lansanah making the interception for Tampa Bay, who took advantage of Griffin’s rust early in the first quarter.
Griffin hasn’t played since a three-point loss to the Minnesota Vikings on November 2, and before that game, had only played in two other games this season. He saw action on September 7 and the following week, when he only had three pass attempts the entire game (and really only played in the first quarter).
He has one touchdown on the season (from the November 2 loss) and now has two interceptions (his other was also in the loss to the Vikings) on the year. He has 18 total interceptions in his career, and the Washington coaching staff is hoping to cut down on some of his mistakes going forward.
