The Georgia Bulldogs were happy to welcome back star running back Todd Gurley this past week against the Auburn Tigers, but that happiness went away the same night when Gurley went down with a torn ACL. Immediately thoughts turned towards Gurley’s future, and whether or not he would see his NFL Draft stock take a hit. According to a report from Jason Cole, multiple NFL people believe that he will still be a first-round pick.

Knee injuries are always a major risk for NFL teams in the draft, but Gurley’s talent is something that teams won’t be able to pass up. He was one of the leading candidates for the Heisman Trophy earlier this year, but got suspended due to accepting money for autographs.

Needless to say, this piece of news is good to hear for Gurley and his fans.

There are plenty of NFL teams that could use a running back with the talent that Gurley possesses, and he is reminding a lot of scouts of a young Adrian Peterson. He has excellent speed and strength, and has a motor that not many players can rival. Gurley’s potential is through the roof, but his health will be the main concern for him moving forward.

Gurley will finish the season with 123 carries for 911 yards and nine touchdowns. There is still a chance that Gurley could choose to return to Georgia next season and do his best to up his draft value for next year, but that isn’t a very likely situation.

All of that being said, it appears that Gurley will stick in the first round at this point in time. That may change depending on how nervous teams get around the draft, but but it’s certainly good news right now. Expect to see Gurley still go high in the draft and get back to full health to start his NFL career.
