Larry Fitzgerald suffered a fairly serious knee injury on Sunday, but still expects to play next week against Seattle.

According to a report from Kent Somers of AZCentral, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has grade two MCL sprain, but expects to play in Seattle on Sunday. Fitzgerald injured his knee in Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, but returned to the field after receiving treatment.

A grade two sprain is fairly serious. Sprains are tears of the ligament, and range from grade 1 (minor) to grade three (completely severed into two pieces). MCL injuring typically heal on their own without surgery, unlike other knee ligaments like the ACL.

After a slow start to the season Fitzgerald has come on lately and is having a strong season for Arizona. He currently has 49 receptions, 658 yards and two touchdowns in Arizona’s balanced offense.

If Fitzgerald cannot go against the Seattle Seahawks it would be a major blow for the Cardinals who are already without starting quarterback Carson Palmer. Palmer tore his ACL in Week 10, and was placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

The Cardinals are 9-1 and have the best record in the NFL. They currently have three game lead over both Seattle and San Francisco in the NFC West.
