The NFL suspended Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson for the rest of the 2014 season, which was not something the former MVP was expecting based on what he was hearing.

When the NFL suspended running back Adrian Peterson for the rest of this season on Tuesday morning, it was a decision that choked Vikings fans hoping to get him back and shocked Peterson — who was told he’d likely come back. That’s very clearly not the case though, as Peterson has been banned for the remainder of the 2014 season so that he can truly think about what he did.

According to reports this morning, Peterson was allegedly told by someone that his time served on the Commissioner’s Exempt List was going to count towards time served. Either that was a lie, or the time served was indeed counted into what is now a 15-game suspension for one of the best running backs in the league.

Mike Florio from ProFootballTalk.com points out that if this unnamed mystery person can be identified and the statement and be corroborated, then it could end up helping Peterson reduce his suspension.

"For now, it’s unclear who, if anyone, made the statement.  If it can be substantiated, it would at a minimum throw a wrench into the NFL’s effort to transform Peterson’s eventual no-contest plea on misdemeanor assault charges into a whopping 15-game suspension, nine of which came with pay."

The bottom line is that there is no right way to go about this because it’s never happened before. The NFL has never acted on child abuse like this before and their bungling of the Ray Rice situation has opened them up for knuckledraggers to defend Peterson against an NFL they see as evil.

Football is colluding everyone’s vision here, as Vikings fans want Peterson back and are mad that he won’t be. Others are mad that Peterson got off so light to begin with and are happy to see someone punish him. This is a sticky situation on all fronts as there are no winners because once boil it down, Adrian Peterson is an employee who beat his child and is not receiving punishment from his bosses for doing so.
