Gelled hair that definitely won’t move, even though putting gel in your hair before playing a sport is silly? Check.

Soccer ball, appropriate gear, and altogether positive attitude? Check.

Superhero cape? Check…er, what?

The 2016 UEFA European Championship, more frequently known as Euro 2016, is set to take place in France during the summer of 2016. As anticipation already builds for that tournament, we saw the reveal of the tournament mascot on Tuesday morning.

This is important.

There are still a number of important questions to address here, given the fact that this unveiling shows us only an animated version of the mascot. Does that mean said mascot will be digital only? Or will there be a real-life version of the mascot? If there will be, that could either be charming or utterly creepy.

Will the mascot be a human in that outfit? Will it be somebody in a mascot costume? If it is the latter, will the costume be the same size as a normal person? Bigger? Smaller? The idea of a huge man-child creature in a soccer uniform and a cape is some kind of nightmare fuel, methinks.

All of this proves, once again, that mascots cannot be created carelessly. They require thoughtfulness and care so that you can help promote your event and, more importantly, not scare the heck out of people.
