Giancarlo Stanton Celebrated With A Huge Bottle Of Champagne

Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton just got a massive MLB contract, so he celebrated the right way with a massive bottle of champagne.

Thirteen years, $325,000,000, $68,493 per day for 13 years. Giancarlo Stanton is only 25 and will be pulling in this guaranteed money until he’s 38 and probably ready to retire. So, according to Busted Coverage, he headed to a Miami club to celebrate being really rich with a huge bottle of champagne.

Stanton made $537,000 in 2013 and $6,500,000 in 2014. Not even close to the roughly $25,000,000 he’ll be making per year by the end of his new deal. Amazingly, he has also never  batted over .300, has only driven in over 100 RBI once, in 2014, and he struck out 170 times also in 2014. Nevertheless, he’s still a young power hitter when those are in short supply and steroids are under more scrutiny than ever. Of course the Marlins had to pay.

Will it come back to bite them elsewhere? Only time will tell on that one.

Stanton’s contract is heavily backloaded, however, to give the Marlins some financial flexibility in the first years of the contract. As reported by ESPN, the terms are as follows.

"According to a major league source who had seen the terms, Stanton’s salaries over those first three seasons will be only $6.5 million in 2015, $9 million in 2016 and $14.5 million in 2017, far less than he could have earned through arbitration in 2015 and 2016 and then via free agency. He would earn $77 million over the next three seasons and could opt out of the contract after 2020, following his age 30 season."

It still easily covers that bottle of champagne, and probably a few more.
