Seau, Kurt Warner, Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt will join Edgerrin James, Kevin Mawae, Orlando Pace and Ty Law as semi-finalists in their first year of eligibility. Tackle Mike Kenn and safety Darren Woodson also become semifinalists for the first time.
Also eligible to be entered into the Hall of Fame are kicker Morten Anderson, safeties Steve Atwater and John Lynch; receivers Tim Brown and Marvin Harrison; running backs Jerome Bettis, Roger Craig and Terrell Davis; linebackers Kevin Greene, Charles Haley and Karl Mecklenburg; offensive lineman Joe Jacoby and Will Shields and coaches Don Coryell and Jimmy Johnson.
The list of 26 candidates was trimmed from 113 nominees. Usually the committee only allows for 25 nominees, but in the case of a tie for the 25th place they can allow more in to this round of voting. This list will be trimmed to a final 15 before the committee makes its decision on up to five Hall of Fame inductees.
This is a pretty competitive list that will make deciding on only five a difficult task. Warner and Seau should be first-ballot guys. Other than that, the receiver class is especially deep. Bruce, Holt, Brown and Harrison should all end up in the Hall eventually, but who makes it now? Do Shields and Bettis get in on their second try?
Who do you think makes it? Let us know after the jump.
