NFL media analyst Mike Ditka is unhappy with the suspension that has been placed on Minnesota Vikings’ running back Adrian Peterson.
The NFL suspended Minnesota Vikings’ running back Adrian Peterson for the remainder of the season without pay, and it is causing a lot of unrest around the league. Many expected Peterson to be reinstated quickly following all of the off-field issues being settled, but that simply hasn’t been the case. Mike Ditka hasn’t been too happy with the way that the league has handled this situation, and he weighed in on the subject.

"“The commissioner is out of line. What [Peterson] did was discipline his kid. Did he do it the right way? No. Maybe he thought he did. But I’m not privy to that. But I know one thing, if you are a parent in this world today and you don’t discipline your child when they’re growing up, they’ll probably grow up to be bad people. That’s all I’m going to tell you.”"
"“I think the commissioner should have re-instated him. First of all, it’s not about finances, it’s not about getting paid. What it’s about is his self-respect, dignity and honor. Maybe he did screw up but, my god, who hasn’t screwed up? There are a lot of guys doing a lot more stupid things in the league today than what he did. I’m all for giving a guy a second chance if he deserves it. I think he deserves one. He’s never been in trouble in his life.”"
This is just the start of what appears to be headed towards a very ugly dispute between the NFL and the NFLPA. Peterson isn’t going to sit back and allow this suspension to happen without a fight, and the league is going to do everything in their power to make sure that he doesn’t play this season.
It will be very interesting to see how things progress from this point forward, but the majority of the players and media analysts are upset that the league didn’t reinstate Peterson. There is definite concern surrounding everything that came up about Peterson in the investigation awhile back, and he did admit that he used drugs as well. Peterson hasn’t helped his case with some of the comments that he has made to this point.
All of that being said, this is not going to be settled anytime soon and it’s not likely that Peterson will play this season. There is still a chance that something changes and he does hit the field for the Vikings, but it simply does’t appear to be the best move for either side to have Peterson re-join the Vikings. More information will continue coming out over the next few weeks, and it is going to be very interesting to follow.
