The Pittsburgh Steelers have released running back LeGarrette Blount after he left the field early in the NFL’s Monday Night Football game against the Tennessee Titans.

LeGarrette Blount hasn’t been happy with his lack of carries this season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he let that frustration boil over in the Steelers’ 27-24 win over the Tennessee Titans on Monday night. Blount left the field prior to the end of the game, and he has paid the prices. According to a release from the Steelers’ official Twitter account, the team has released Blount.

This isn’t necessarily a surprise, but it is a very swift and hard reaction to everything that went down on Monday. Blount knows better than to walk off the field on his team, but his frustration is understandable. That being said, he deserved getting cut by the Steelers for making that selfish decision to walk away from his teammates, and the Steelers are the type of organization that will not allow those types of moves from players.

Blount had carried the football 65 times for 266 yards and two touchdowns on the season prior to getting cut. Those numbers are not what he was hoping for when he signed with Pittsburgh, but the Steelers simply haven’t wanted to take Le’Veon Bell off the field with the way that he has been playing. There will likely be a couple different teams that show interest in signing Blount in the near future.

Don’t expect the 27-year-old running back to remain a free agent for too long. Teams like the Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, and a few other teams could show interest fairly quickly.

All of that being said, the Steelers made it very clear that they will not stand for a player causing drama. Blount made a mistake due to frustration, but those types of mistakes can prove to be very costly. It will be interesting to see what ends up happening with Blount moving forward.
