New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he was ‘stunned’ when he learned the NFL fined him for $100,000 for shouting profanity at officials following the team’s Week 10 victory.
Rex Ryan remains the king of the ‘Who, me?’ routine and he solidified his place atop the throne this week when he was asked about the $100,000 fine levied against him by the NFL for shouting profanities at officials at the end of the New York Jets‘ Week 10 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“I was stunned by it to say the least,” Ryan told reporters, per Pro Football Talk. It should hardly be surprising to Ryan that the NFL still doesn’t want its coaches and players swearing at its referees, but there it is.
Ryan of course had to air out his own logic behind the incident and it falls way short of acceptable.
“Really I would rather not get into exactly who I was talking to,” Ryan continued, “but again I apologize if I offended somebody, it wasn’t my intention, it was meant to be a private conversation.”
Once you utter the words ‘I apologize if I offended’ to start an apology you’re already done. And you cussing out a ref was a private conversation? Really? So if you just walk up to someone on the street and start shouting profanities at them, everyone else should just ignore it because you’ve decided that’s a private conversation?
Fortunately Rex Ryan doesn’t want to get into it, so the NFL will have to just take his word at face value. Oh, and his money. They will definitely take his money, too.
