Police have re-opened a child-abuse case involving Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard.

Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard is being investigated for child abuse, according to an NBC News report.

The allegations stem from an incident this summer in which Howard was initially cleared for. However, Cobb County Police in Georgia have received new information in the past 48 hours and re-opened the case, the report says.

It’s unknown what the new information of the case is, but previously known details of the matter as reported by TMZ Sports show Dwight Howard to have struck his six-year-old son multiple times.

"TMZ Sports has obtained documents from the Dept. of Children and Families (DCF), summarizing the findings of the doctor who examined Braylon. It says, “Dr. Kesler noted Braylon to have a linear bruise and patterned abrasions consistent with the history given by Braylon of being struck with a belt numerous times by his father.”The report goes on to say the injuries were “consistent with Braylon being struck with the buckle end of the belt … with excessive force, resulting in soft tissue injuries such as bruising and abrasions.”"

Howard admitted to striking his child, but believed it not be an problem because of how he was disciplined as a child, reports TMZ Sports.

One can’t help but be reminded of the child-abuse situation involving Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.

Peterson has not appeared in a game since child-abuse charges were known following Week 1 of the current NFL season and the running back was suspended for the rest of the season on Tuesday.

It certainly will be interesting to see how the Rockets and NBA handle Howard’s situation.
