Jimmy Fallon’s musical impressions are a cornerstone to the Tonight Show, and the multi-talented host and The Roots nailed a cover of U2’s hit “Desire.”

U2–you know, that band whose newest album “Songs Of Innocence” randomly appeared on your iPhone–was forced to cancel it’s weeklong appearance on The Tonight Show after Bono injured his arm in a cycling accident (?).
A statement on the band’s website read:
"“It looks like we will have to do our Tonight Show residency another time – we’re one man down. Bono has injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and requires some surgery to repair it. We’re sure he’ll make a full recovery soon, so we’ll be back! Much thanks to Jimmy Fallon and everyone at the show for their understanding.”"
And so Jimmy Fallon and house band The Roots took over in a surprise performance, covering U2’s 1988 hit “Desire” and he killed it. Complete with a fitful harmonica solo, Bono’s weird hunch thing he does and a pretty impressive impression of Bono’s distinctive vocals, Fallon and The Roots did not disappoint despite the legendary band’s absence.

If you haven’t been keeping up with Fallon’s musical impressions, you should do a dive on YouTube. Check out his duet with Bruce Springsteen doing “Whip My Hair” or his impression of Neil Young singing “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” Oh, and my personal favorites–Pearl Jam’s Linsanity-inspired version of “Jeremy” and his impression of Van Morrison
