Charlotte Hornets’ guard Lance Stephenson believes that he will get booed in his first game against the Indiana Pacers since he left in NBA free agency.

The Indiana Pacers went into this past offseason with the hope that they could come to terms on a long-term contract with shooting guard Lance Stephenson, but that did not end up being the case. Stephenson ended up getting offended at their first offer and never giving them a second of time throughout the rest of free agency before signing with the Charlotte Hornets.

So far this season, Stephenson hasn’t lived up to the hype and expectations that he received from Charlotte fans. He hasn’t been able to score the ball very well, but his rebounding and playmaking abilities have been a nice addition. The Hornets are not about to face the Pacers in Indianapolis this evening, and Stephenson believes that the way he left Indiana will make the fans boo him in his first return to Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

“Honestly. I think I’m going to get booed.” – Lance Stephenson

There haven’t been too many times that the Pacers fans have booed a former player, but it was not very appreciated the terms that he left Indiana on. It appeared to fans that he was not interested in returning to Indiana and didn’t give Larry Bird and company a chance. That may or may not have been the case, but the fan perception is all that matters in this situation.

Stephenson has averaged 9.5 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game throughout his first 11 games with the Hornets. He hasn’t had the type of role that he was rumored to want in the offseason, and it’s likely that he will end up regretting his decision to leave the Pacers when everything is said and done.

Indiana has gotten off to a rough 4-7 start this season, but they have seen flashes of brilliance from Rodney Stuckey who was signed to replace Stephenson. It will be very intriguing to see how the fans receive him tonight, and whether or not he is welcomed back to Bankers Life Fieldhouse with boos or cheers.
