Fantasy Football: Why Not Add Rams WR Kenny Britt To Your Roster
By Bruce Matson
Last week, Kenny Britt went off against the Denver Broncos for four receptions, 128 yards and a TD. Now he’s sitting there on the top of your waiver wire screaming for you to add him to your roster, but you find it hard to pull the trigger to make the transaction. There’s a lot if uncertainty and a lot of doubt when it comes to Britt. You tell yourself that last week could have been a fluke and you convince yourself that he’s never going to have a game that big again. But in the back of your head you ask yourself what if? What if he’s rejuvenated and he’s back to playing like the “old” Kenny Britt. You remember the Kenny Britt who was thought of as one of the most athletically gifted wide receivers in the NFL. Britt could be the difference maker for your fantasy team if the stars align. If Britt makes what he did on Sunday a habit, he’s going to win a lot of leagues for fantasy owners. So while you browse your waiver wire, ask yourself, Why not Britt?

In 2009, Britt was drafted in the 1st round (30th overall) by the Tennessee Titans. Britt came into the NFL as the prototypical big athletic receiver being 6’2 215 pounds with an explosive 40 yard dash and Vertical (4.47 40 & 37 inch vertical). Britt had flashes of brilliance during his rookie year recording 42 receptions 702 yards and 3 TDs. Britt followed his rookie season with a promising sophomore season with 42 receptions 775 yards and 9 TDs. Many fantasy owners were excited for Britt’s development and what his production could possibly manifest into for their fantasy teams. Britt crushed the dreams of fantasy owners when he tore his ACL during the 2011 season. Britt was a shell of himself during the 2012 season due to knee complications from his ACL surgery in 2011. The 2013 season was a total bust for Britt, as he struggled getting on the field and continued having knee issues.
It’s now 2014 and Britt’s break out campaign in 2010 has long been forgotten. Britt has been quiet this season until he faced the Denver Broncos and displayed his potential. Is Britt ever going to live up to his potential and be a serviceable wide receiver in fantasy, or is he going to continue to be a shell of his former self and tease us with his potential a couple times a year?
Britt doesn’t have any competition for targets, and he should get the bulk of them for the rest of the season. Also, Rams QB Shaun Hill has recently took over the starting position, which appears could be beneficiary to Britt because Hill has the arm strength to throw the ball downfield. Britt has a great schedule going forward playing, San Diego, Oakland, and Washington in the next three weeks. Britt is startable as a flex during this time frame because of how great the match ups are.
I would consider adding Britt to your roster, He’s going to have some opportunities in the next few weeks and it could pay off for you. If you are weak at wide receiver, you can plug him in and expect WR2 fantasy production. If you pick him up and he bombs out, you can cut him, so there really isn’t much of a gamble adding him to your team. So, why not Kenny Britt?
