Not that you needed any confirmation of this but Alex Ovechkin is breathtaking with the puck on his stick and worked his magic again on Thursday night with a goal of the year candidate against the Colorado Avalanche

Washington Capitals three-time Hart Trophy winner, Alex Ovechkin, had a beautiful goal against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night that will go to the top of the list for the candidates for the goal of the year.

Ovechkin has scored many incredible goals in his career and a few ugly ones as well, but this one will go down as one of his finest after he broke a 2-2 tie late in the third period against Colorado after he skated past defenseman Jan Hejda and got off a backhanded shot on Avalanche goalie Reto Berra.

Unfortunately for Berra, he didn’t cover up the puck and Ovechkin corralled the rebound and tapped in the game-winning goal with 5:56 left in the third period for his ninth goal of the year and snapped a four-game drought without a goal.

“It was a lucky bounce (to get the puck back),” Ovechkin said. “I was skating and put the puck on net. It was a huge goal and gave us the points.”

Pretty sick goal, right?

We have come to expect this type of stuff on a nightly basis from one of the greatest goal scorers to ever lace up the skates and he showed off his wizardry to give the Capitals two points they needed to move into third place in the Metropolitan division.
