Head coach Dan Mullen announced on Friday that Cox has been suspended indefinitely after he was arrested and had his bail set at $20,000 after police responded to a burglarly call in the Aspen Heights apartment complex around 3 a.m. where a female victim had a head injury.

More from the Starkville Daily News, “Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Brett Watson said deputies responded to a burglary call on Rocky Road in the Aspen Heights apartment complex at about 3 a.m. Friday. He said upon arrival, deputies found a female victim with an injury to her head. Watson would not identify the victim.”

“Watson said deputies arrested Cox, a 21-year-old West Point native, at the scene on suspicion of burglary of a dwelling and aggravated domestic violence and booked him into Oktibbeha County Jail.”

Cox was in his first year at Mississippi State after transferring from East Mississippi Community College where he was one of the top JUCO recruits in the nation. He started nine games this year at free safety, making 21 tackles and one interception.

The No. 4 Bulldogs have Vanderbilt on Saturday before traveling to Oxford, MS to take on their in-state rivals, Ole Miss before a potential SEC Championship Game appearance and a berth in the College Football Playoff.

It is very possible, perhaps very likely, that Cox has played his last game as a member of the Bulldogs.
