This is Cashman’s fourth year participating, which requires the participants to raise at least $5,000 for the charity, and Covenant House encourages donors to also join in the sleep out. So the Yankees’ GM grabbed a beanie cap and some blankets, and then got out into the cold. Cashman called sleeping outside in the cold “a disaster,” and was glad to be helping Covenant House try to help homeless youth.
“I have no idea how any human being possibly can do it for one night, let alone weeks on end,” Cashman said.
Cashman said that about $1.6 million was raised for Covenant House from New York City, out of approximately $5 million nationally, and Covenant House always accepts donations if you’re feeling generous. You can see Cashman’s full MLB.com interview here.
