It’s no secret that the Washington Redskins have struggled on the offensive side of the ball this year, but head coach Jay Gruden says that McCoy is pushing the franchise quarterback to be better.

Although the Washington Redskins are seventh in the league in total passing yards they are still only a three-win team who has used just as many quarterbacks while somehow making none of them look like potential franchise guys.

Colt McCoy has been the best for them, playing in two games and picking up a solid quarterback rating of 107, almost 20 points better than both Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins. The fact that McCoy played pretty well is pushing RG3 to get better each week due to the chance he could lose his job any time, according to coach Jay Gruden.

From NFL.com:

"“There’s always pressure on the quarterback to perform,” Gruden said.” And if you don’t perform, like any other position, somebody’s behind you pushing you.”"

Now, Gruden could have meant Cousins, but after just two wins in six games it doesn’t seem that Cousins is exactly threatening Griffin anymore. McCoy, though, won two games in his brief campaign as a starter, against Dallas and Tennessee, throwing for over 400 yards in those two games.

Jay  also admitted that Griffin is doing so poorly partially due to the fact he has missed so much throughout his short career. The former Heisman winner missed the entire 2013 offseason and six weeks this season due to injury, which kept him from practicing and actually getting better.
