Could We See Richard Sherman At Wide Receiver?

Richard Sherman of the Seattle Seahawks is the best cornerback in the NFL, but could we see him line up at wide receiver to provide a spark to the team’s struggling offense?

We know a lot of things about Richard Sherman at this point. He is an outstanding cover corner. He is confident in his abilities. He is not afraid to express his opinions. He is not impressed with Michael Crabtree, ever. And he co-stars in a truly horrific beef jerky commercial with Stephen A. Smith.

There is something else we know about Richard Sherman the football player: he has great ball skills. All those career interceptions are the result of the fact that Sherman does not have the stone hands of some of his colleagues at the cornerback position. With that in mind, the Seahawks are reportedly considering Sherman as an option at wide receiver to spark their struggling offense.

Pete Carroll acknowledged the possibility of using Sherman at wide receiver this week in an interview on KIRO Radio 97.3 this week:

"“He’s been very clear in that intent for a long time around here,” Carroll told KIRO Radio 97.3 FM on Friday. “It’s always been a conversation that we’ve had, and if I need him I’m going to him and he knows that.”"

You mean Richard Sherman has talked a lot about something? Shocked. His confidence is probably founded, however, as he did play wide receiver for his first two seasons at Stanford.

The struggling Seahawks’ offense has been especially helpless in the passing game. It seems like the departure of Golden Tate this past off-season and the trade of Percy Harvin this season are being felt more and more each week. It would be a risk-reward proposition to use Sherman at wide receiver, but maybe the Seahawks will give it a try as they fight for a playoff spot in the NFC.
