When Jameis Winston shoved an official on Saturday night, the Heisman winner took a lot of flak from many who thought he should have been ejected from the game. That didn’t happen and it doesn’t appear that any disciplinary action is going to be coming from either Florida State or the ACC because of it.
If you missed the incident in question, here’s a replay of Winston clearly shoving the official out of his way when it appears he was trying to make sure the ball was set.
There are always two sides to a Jameis Winston scandal, with Florida State fans siding with their quarterback and everyone else calling him out. NFL official Mike Pereira stated that Winston should have been ejected but the ACC disagrees. Thankfully for Winston, the ACC’s say is all that matters where, and they say that incidental contact is an accurate way to describe what happened.
ACC says contact b/w Winston & official in BC game incidental & insignificant; didn’t deserve unsportsmanlike penalty

People are going to disagree with that explanation, but when as any college conference with a top ranked team ever bent over backwards to make sure people were properly punished?
Florida State actually deserves more credit than most, as they took it upon themselves to suspend Winston for a game earlier this season that they almost lost. They won’t be making that mistake again, and it’s viewing this from that angle which is making so many Winston haters so angry that he’s getting away with shoving a referee.
