After a week or so of flirting with the idea of signing Pablo Sandoval, the Boston Red Sox have inked the slugger to a 5-year deal close to $100 million.
The Boston Red Sox have been busy bunch these past 24 hours as the team has gone from being rumored to make moves to actually making them. After agreeing to terms with infielder Hanley Ramirez, the Red Sox have gone ahead and agreed to a deal with World Series hero Pablo Sandoval.

The exact details of the deal are unknown, but the team is expected to give the third baseman a five-year deal worth almost $100 million. This seems to be in line with reports that a $95 million offer was made to Sandoval and matches the 5-year, $95 million deal that Hanley Ramirez is set to sign on Monday.
CBS insider Jon Heyman was the first to report the deal.
Sandoval reportedly received an offer from the San Diego Padres earlier this weekend, which may or may not have prompted the Red Sox to make a better deal. It’s not known exactly what the Padres offered him, but the chances of hi signing there were always minimal at best.
With the Red Sox, Sandoval can play third base and also transition into a DH as his body continues to take the everyday wear-and-tear it takes. There will likely be weight incentives in the deal for Sandoval as the Red Sox will want to make sure the Panda they’re getting remains the Panda he has been for the San Francisco Giants all these years.
Sandoval’s deal come at a time when free agents are starting to fly off the market as both Hanley Ramirez and Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton have inked massive deals in the past week.
