Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week 13 Pickups

facebooktwitterreddit

Week 13 is finally here! This is the final week of the fantasy football regular season. No more teams are on bye, so owners will have their full roster available for the rest of their seasons. This week will feature the annual Thanksgiving games on Thursday. The Lions host the Bears for the early afternoon game, followed by the Eagles and Cowboys for the late afternoon game. For dessert, bitter rivals Seattle and San Francisco will square off at new Levi’s Stadium. Fantasy owners either clawing for that final playoff spot or fine tuning their rosters for the playoffs can search the waiver wire for potential splash acquisitions. I will highlight one player from each position on the wire that can help you get into the playoffs.

Eli Manning (Giants) (Owned in 54% of Yahoo! Leagues)

It’s Thanksgiving time, so its time to feast. Eli Manning should have plenty to feast on in Week 13 as the Giants go down to Jacksonville to face the hapless Jags. The Giants are desperate for a win as they have lost 6 in a row. The Jags have given up the 5th most passing yards to QBs this season. In 5 home games, the Jags are giving up an average of 260 yards passing per game and have given up 9 TDs. Outside of the horrendous game he had against the 49ers, Manning has been pretty efficient this season. Following this game with Jacksonville, Manning has a favorable fantasy playoff schedule. Starting in Week 14, the Giants are at Tennessee, then home to Washington and at St. Louis. If you are in a jam at the QB position, Eli is capable of taking you on that playoff run.

RUNNING BACK

LaGarrette Blount (Patriots) (Owned in 31% of Yahoo! Leagues)

For a second straight week, a New England Patriot is high on the waiver wire. Running back LaGarrette Blount, who signed with the Pats only a few days ago after being cut by the Steelers, rushed 12 times for 78 yards and 2TDs on Sunday. Blount got the chance to play because Jonas Gray overslept and missed Friday’s practice. Blount’s performance shows that he can still put up fantasy numbers if plugged into a lineup. The problem in New England is that you just don’t know which back Bill Belichick will use. His running back carousel will showcase one back one week, then use a different back the following week. I think Belichick likes to keep defenses and fantasy owners alike guessing. For fantasy purposes, Blount can be a player that will be fantasy relevant assuming Belichick gets him in the lineup.

WIDE RECEIVER

Jarvis Landry (Dolphins) (Owned in 20% of Yahoo! Leagues)

The 2014 draft class continues to be the class that will be remembered as “The Year of the WR”. Another rookie WR got some recognition in Week 12. Jarvis Landry got to shine in the Dolphins 39-36 loss to the Broncos. He had 7 receptions for 50 yards and 2 TDs. He has now put up double digit fantasy points in 3 out of the last 4 weeks in standard leagues. In his last 4 games, Landry has 24 receptions for 195 yards and 4 TDs. Tannehill has developed a nice rapport with Landry, and now is trusting him in the redzone. Fantasy owners in need of a WR should put a claim in for Landry.

TIGHT END

Tim Wright (Patriots) (Owned in 15% of Yahoo! Leagues)

Tim Wright had his best fantasy game of the season in Week 12 against the Lions. He had 5 receptions for 36 yards and 2 TDs. He was given a lot of playing time as he was in on 61 snaps. Everyone knows Belichick loves his 2 TE sets. When the Pats traded for Wright before this season started, many thought Belichick had his new Aaron Hernandez, and now he actually might. Wright has made the most of his playing time so far this year, with 6 TD receptions. His 6 TDs only trail Gronkowski for the team lead. The 2014 fantasy season has not been kind for TEs. If you’re searching for a tight end and can live with a high-risk, high-reward player, go out and grab Wright.

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS

New York Giants (Owned in 10% of Yahoo! Leagues)

The New Giants can take their frustrations out on the Jaguars in Week 13. The Giants should put up nice fantasy numbers in Jacksonville as the Jags have given up the most fantasy points to team defenses/special teams this season. The Jags are coming off their lowest scoring game of the season as they only scored 3 points against the Colts. For the season, Jacksonville is averaging 14.6 point per game which ranks dead last in the league. Even worse, Jacksonville has given up an NFL high 43 sacks this season, which is 9 more than any other team. The Jags also are tied with the league lead in INT with 16. The Giants will be the most added defense in Week 13 so grab them if you can.
