Sony Says Programming For Driveclub Was Above Them
Sony has now made comments in regards to the launch of Driveclub but unfortunately, they are as much of a debacle as the game itself is.
Driveclub launched nearly two months ago at this point and the game is still failing to function at 100 percent. While that has seemingly become the norm for games as of late, Sony has taken a different approach when it comes to addressing the problem. Instead of fixing it and apologizing, they are saying the problems couldn’t have been avoided.

IGN interviewed Sony Computer Entertainment of America president and CEO Shawn Layden last week, and one comment stood out as overwhelmingly concerning. He siad, “You do a beta test, you scope against that. But now, in a connected world, you can’t effectively test in your house or in your beta group what it means to have 50,000, 100,000, 200,000 users hit your service.”
While that may be a great piece of information in a vacuum, the idea that a game like Destiny can launch with literal millions of players bombarding its servers and experience no issues, but a new game that likely had few early adopters can’t do the same is silly.
Unfortunately, the comment strikes gamers as a complete cop out and misstep on Sony’s end. With the idea that a game suffering such a horrendous launch is now being swept under the rug as something the simply couldn’t have been avoided is not ok. Consumers coughing up $60 for a broken product have yet to be compensated, and even worse, their purchase still has yet to be warranted.
Driveclub represented the possibility to be something great for the PlayStation 4. A game that has glowing reviews in the looks department has failed just about everywhere else, and the continued fumble of the public relations fallout may have the franchise back in the pits before it gets out on the track.
