Following a week that saw the city withstand more than seven feet of snow that left them paralyzed, Buffalo will welcome its Bills — and a franchise icon — back home when they face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly will lead the Bills out onto the field at Ralph Wilson Stadium, as the team will play its first home game since the brutal storm. Buffalo was unable to play last week’s scheduled home game against the New York Jets because of the 220,000 tons of snow in the stadium, forcing them to play the game in Detroit’s Ford Field, where they routed the Jets 38-3.
The team was able to finally clear the snow out of the stadium on Monday, setting the stage for the Bills to officially announce the home date would become a reality.
Kelly, who led the team to four Super Bowls in his 11 seasons with the team, has battled sinus cancer for the past several years, but the team’s all-time leader in almost all passing categories was declared cancer-free in August. He remains a presence and inspiration for the city that he has called home since joining the franchise from the United States Football League in 1986.
His jersey No. 12 is the only number the Bills have retired in their 55-year history.
