Kelvin Benjamin Gives Odell Beckham Jr’s Catch ‘9 Out Of 10’
By Cory Buck
Carolina Panthers rookie Kelvin Benjamin gave New York Giants rookie Odell Beckham Jr.’ highlight-reel catch a ‘9 out of 10’.
While many of us are still picking our jaws up off the floor after New York Giants rookie receiver Odell Beckham Jr. made the catch of the year, fellow rookie and Carolina Panthers receiver Kelvin Benjamin isn’t quite ready to give it the same adulation.

While he recognizes it as a ‘great catch’, Benjamin said it felt just a little bit short of perfect.
“It was about a 9,” Benjamin said, per the Charlotte Observer. Asked what Beckham could do to make it a ten, Benjamin suggested, “Catch it with no eyes looking.”
The tongue-in-cheek remarks help underline the rookie rivalry taking place between these two, as well as fellow NFL first-rounders Sammy Watkins, Mike Evans, Brandin Cooks, and third-rounder John Brown in what could be one of the best wide receiver draft classes ever.
As the fourth receiver taken in that bunch, Benjamin clearly has some beef even as he’s willing to give Beckham Jr. credit for his snag.
“You don’t practice one-handers,” Benjamin said. “One-handed catches are just reaction catches. You just go into that zone in that moment and boom.”
Despite the playful banter, Benjamin didn’t bite when asked how some highlight catches of his own would compare to that catch of Beckham’s.
“Why are y’all always trying to compare things? It was a great catch,” Benjamin concluded.
