Nick Sundberg Mad He Heard About RG3 Benching From ESPN

Washington Redskins long snapper Nick Sundberg isn’t happy that the first place he heard of Robert Griffin III’s benching was ESPN.

According to a story by the Washington Post, the decision to bench Griffin was made on Tuesday by Redskins coach Jay Gruden after he met with Griffin and now-named starter Colt McCoy on an individual basis. Gruden had intended to announce the decision to the whole team on Wednesday, but was preempted by ESPN’s Adam Schefter who tweeted the decision late Tuesday night, citing a team source.

About 20 minutes later, Sundberg took to Twitter to express his frustration with hearing the news from ESPN instead of Gruden. Reportedly Gruden didn’t want the news to get out before he addressed the team on Wednesday, but he ended up having no choice in the matter.

Redskins players have addressed the issue with “dry snitching” before. In a previous story by the Washington Post, wide receiver Santana Moss talked about the issue.

"He (DeSean Jackson) was kind of ticked off because whatever was said got out to the media and people were saying things that maybe you and someone was talking about, or someone else was talking. That’s got to stop, man. You got these cats dry snitching and telling media in-house business. They’re gonna find out a lot of stuff. They’re gonna ask a lot of questions, so if you’re one of the guys they talk to, you can tell them a lot. But stuff that’s kept in-house, kept in that meeting room, in that locker room, you can’t go out and leak that out to sources or whoever.”"

Obviously Moss and the Redskins aren’t completely alone in this issue as Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch also pointed to anonymous team sources talking to the media about his possible departure next year. Something both Lynch and Seahawks coach Pete Carroll denied was a possibility.
