The New York Yankees continue to find a replace at shortstop for the retired Derek Jeter, as they have been linked to a host of potential options

More from MLB

Having failed at a bid for Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins, the New York Yankees will continue their bid of finding a top-tier replacement for the retired Derek Jeter, as they have attempted to pry Troy Tulowitzki from the Rockies.

Tulowitzki’s name has been linked to the Yankees in a possible blockbuster deal for at least a couple of years, yet no serious conversation between the two teams has happened. After the Phillies turned them down for Rollins, talk of the Yankees finally making a major bid for a trade perked up, but one story has all but assured Tulowitzki will not be coming to the Bronx at this time,

It’s not that the Yankees don’t want an elite talent like Tulowitzki. Nah, the problem (or 144 million of them) would be the fact the Yankees have no interest in picking up the final six years and $144 million George Washingtons that Tulowitzki has left on a contract he re-upped with the Rockies. Already saddled with an avalanche of huge long-term deals, it stands to reason that even the Yankees can have a moment of pause when it comes to mammoth contracts.

So, where does that leave the Yankees? Well….

With Hanley Ramirez gone to patrol left field for the rival Red Sox, the Yanks may have to look in the bargain aisle for a reasonable option at short. That means the likes of Jed Lowie or Stephen Drew, and after them, the pickings get awfully slim.
