A report late Thursday night is stating that the SMU Mustangs have found their man at head coach, and it is Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris.
The SMU Mustangs have apparently found their replacement for June Jones at head coach, and they’re definitely looking to get themselves a spark on the offensive side of the ball again. According to a report from Football Scoop, Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris is ready to take over, as has been speculated as of late.
"Indications out of Clemson are that Chad Morris has agreed to become the new head coach at SMU. Clint Brewster who covers Clemson first reported that Morris is headed to SMU. FootballScoop can confirm that Morris left Clemson immediately after practice today around 3pm. Sources tell us they expect him to be the new head coach but we have not received confirmation yet from SMU."
Morris has been on the lists of potential candidates for programs that had openings the past few years, however he never landed a head coaching job–until now, apparently.

He made his mark the past few seasons with Clemson, directing one of the more dynamic offenses in the country led by the likes of Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins. Before that, he coordinated at Tulsa.
From a recruiting aspect, this would be a sensational hire, given the fact that Morris has ties to the state of Texas. He spent 16 years as a high school coach in the state, winning multiple state championships.
In 2012, Morris interviewed for the Texas Tech job, which was eventually filled by Kliff Kingsbury. ]
