Patrick Roy: ‘They Got Away With Things That We Could Not’
By Cory Buck
Colorado Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy claimed that the Chicago Blackhawks got calls in their favor in Colorado’s 3-2 loss to Chicago.
Patrick Roy displayed the same fire for which he was so famous in his playing days after his Colorado Avalanche dropped a tough decision to Central Division rival Chicago Blackhawks. The Hawks enjoyed a stretch of three straight power plays in the second period and an overall advantage of 12 minutes on the power play to four for Colorado. As expected, Roy told it how he saw it, as seen below.

For those not clicking the video, here’s the money quote:
"“I thought 5-on-5 we were the better team,” said Roy. “It’s kind of funny how this game goes sometimes. The last few games we give (up) one or maybe no power plays. Tonight we gave them five in 33 minutes. That’s all they needed to score those two goals. I just thought they got away with things that we could not get away (with) tonight.”"
As tempting as it is to tell Roy and the Avalanche to suck it up, to not blame outside influences for another Colorado loss, the numbers are peculiar and teams like Chicago (ie really good teams with respected captains) do tend to get the better end of the calls in any given game.
That said, it’s not a coach’s role to complain about the referees. Expect a fine to be levied against Roy, along with unseen warning against future behavior.
