The Washington Redskins made a decision to bench quarterback Robert Griffin III, the player they traded up to draft years ago. Griffin has been despicable since his rookie season, never seemingly recovering from a late season knee injury.
After horrible play this season, the Redskins decided to give Colt McCoy a shot down the stretch of the season. When asked how Griffin felt about the decision, Griffin repeated the same line over and over again.
From the report:
"“It was Coach’s decision,” Griffin said, not breaking stride. “I’m here to help this team win.”Asked how disappointed he was with Gruden’s decision, Griffin responded: “Like I said, it was Coach’s decision. I’m here to help this team win.”Asked if it’s possible for him to use the benching as motivation, Griffin said: “Be ready to play. I’m here to help the team win anyway I can.”Asked if he was pleased with any progress he had made this season, he responded: “I’m just focused on helping us win. That’s all I can do.”"
You have to give Griffin credit for handling that about as well as anyone could in his situation. He could’ve taken that platform to air any grievances but he dug in and said the right things in the situation.
