Ryan Garbutt: Two Game Suspension For Hit On Taylor Hall (video)
Dallas Stars winger Ryan Garbutt was delivered a two-game suspension on Thanksgiving
After a last-minute decision to hold a hearing for the hit, no one should be surprised that a suspension was handed out.

Wednesday afternoon, the NHL Department of Player Safety reversed their initial statement regarding a knee-on-knee hit made to Edmonton Oilers star Taylor Hall by Dallas Stars forward Ryan Garbutt earlier this week.
While they had initially said no further discipline would be considered, Player Safety announced that they would, in fact, hold a hearing with Garbutt regarding the hit; so when he got a two-game suspension for a ‘reckless play’, Dallas was somewhat expecting it.
This wasn’t Garbutt’s first offense, nor was it the first offense made by a Dallas Stars forward this season. Garbutt now joins fellow forward Antoine Roussel in the team’s doghouse; as they struggle to remain relevant in an increasingly competitive Western Conference, having a suspended player is not what the Dallas Stars need.
Although Hall was not injured on the play and continued to skate for the remainder of the game, the league has started cracking down on hits such as these. During the GM meeting earlier this month, it was pointed out that there has been a noticeable ‘spike’ in these kinds of plays at the start of the 2014-2015 season; undoubtedly, the league wanted to make sure that stops.
Garbutt will miss the team’s games both Friday and Saturday, then will be eligible to re-join the lineup.
