Tom Heinsohn has been a Boston Celtic forever. He played for the Celtics, he coached the Celtics, he broadcasts the Celtics. And he’s not terribly impartial.

Score another one for Boston Celtics broadcaster Tom Heinsohn.

During Friday’s matinee at TD Garden between the Celtics and the Chicago Bulls, Heinsohn’s deep analytical mind was hard at work when a call on the baseline went against the Celtics.

So let’s get this straight, Tommy? Did you think it was terrible? Or did you think it was terrible? Or perhaps you meant TERRIBLE?

You can’t get analysis like that just anywhere, folks.

But Tom Heinsohn gets a pass on this because he’s been affiliated with the Celtics so long, he doesn’t know any other team.

Heinsohn played for the Celtics from 1956-65 and broadcast Celtics games from 1966-69 before taking over as coach of the Celtics from 1969-78.

He’s been broadcasting Celtics games since his coaching tenure ended and, when the issues associated with being 80 years old prevent him from traveling with the team, he does studio analysis on the Celtics’ broadcasts.

Because his actual NBA career was so long ago, most people remember Heinsohn only as the crazy old broadcaster dude.

But he could play. And he could coach.

He was the NBA Rookie of the Year in 1956-57—the same year a teammate named Bill Russell was a rookie. He was a four-time All-NBA player, a six-time All-Star and won eight championships.

As a coach, he was 427-263 and won two titles, earning Coach of the Year honors in 1972-73.

So he’s got some credentials … even if he occasionally loses his mind.
