Derek Dorsett goes flying into Columbus’ bench during game; surprisingly common
In case you care, the Columbus Blue Jackets lost in a 5-0 shutout by the Vancouver Canucks.

Forget that, though. The Blue Jackets are hurt and obviously cannot win a single game until they are one hundred percent full strength again. That’s not the story here.
The story is the brief trip Derek Dorsett took down memory lane, as he flew headfirst into the Columbus bench early in the second period.
It’s nice that he got a chance to hang with his former teammates again, but that’s not exactly how I’d recommend going about doing it. First off, you’re probably going to kick someone’s eye out with your skate blade; not exactly the way to go about greeting your old friends. Second, that’s a really good way to inaverdently concuss yourself. The league is moving away from head injuries — and I think those include self-inflicted ones.
As funny as this is, though, the part that makes me really laugh is how common this is. I literally cannot think of an instance in which a player looks more ridiculous during a game, yet it seems to happen with somewhat alarming frequency.
For example — Cal Clutterbuck did this during a game against Vancouver in 2011:
Skate it off, Cal. Skate it off.
Then, Mike Green did it during a game last October — only he went flying into his own team’s bench:
Really, though, of course it was Mike Green.
