Philadelphia Eagles‘ running back LeSean McCoy put on a show in his team’s victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving day, motivated by pride as he tried to out-gain DeMarco Murray on the ground.
DeMarco Murray and LeSean McCoy are two of the best running backs in the NFL, and they just so happen to play for two teams in a tight race at the top of the NFC East.

The Cowboys and the Eagles met on Thanksgiving in the first of two key games down the final stretch of the 2014 regular season. On this day it was McCoy and the Eagles coming out on top, with the man known as ‘Shady’ putting on a show.
In total, LeSean McCoy ran for 158 yards and a touchdown. As he tries to reclaim his status as one of the best running backs in football after a touch-and-go first half of the season, McCoy admitted after this game that part of his motivation was to out-rush Murray, the NFL’s leading rusher. As passed along by CSN Philly:
"“Obviously, I wanted to out-rush him,” McCoy said with a smile. “It’s a pride thing.”"
These comments came shortly after McCoy tried to give the politically correct answer about just wanting the team to win, not caring about individual statistics, or whatever.
We don’t want to hear that. It’s OK that McCoy wanted to outdo Murray, and those two will have another chance to compete in a key game between now and the end of the regular season.
As things stand now, McCoy has 1,018 yards on the season and four touchdowns. Murray has 1,427 yards and eight touchdowns.
