Gary Pinkel and the Missouri Tigers will be getting another crack at the trophy that eluded them last season. Following their 21-14 win over Arkansas on Friday, Missouri has clinched the 2014 SEC East Championship and will now await the opponent that will come out of the SEC West.
Missouri, after the win over the Razorbacks, has finished up their regular season at 10-2, having suffered losses to Georgia back in early October, and then of course, that head-scratching defeat to Indiana of the Big Ten in late September.
However, after that loss to Georgia, they were able to finish off their year with a six-game winning streak, so they’re going into Atlanta hot against whomever their opponent may be.
The Tigers made a trip to Atlanta last year where they faced off against the Auburn Tigers in what was one of the more fun shootouts to watch all season. Unfortunately for Missouri, though, they came out on the losing end in the effort, 59-42.
But they will get their chance at redemption next weekend when they take on a new SEC West opponent, and they’re hoping that things can be different this time around.
Led by the passing efforts of Maty Mauk and the rushing skills of Russell Hansbrough, Missouri once again has their sights on one of the most coveted prizes in college football–the SEC Championship.
