Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh helped team to overthrow Philadelphia Flyers Friday afternoon

About time.

More from New York Rangers

New York Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh left the lineup with a shoulder injury back on November 1st; subsequently, it’s been a long month for the reigning Eastern Conference champs.

The team announced on Friday morning, though, that he’s back in action — and helped the team take on the Philadelphia Flyers Friday afternoon for the Thanksgiving Showdown at Wells Fargo Center in Philly. He replaced defenseman John Moore in the lineup, who was subsequently the team’s healthy scratch in a 3-0 victory over the struggling Flyers squad.

McDonagh’s return to the lineup meant more than just getting back a captain in this shutout win; for the first time this season, the team’s blue line was fully intact.

So far this season, Marc Staal and Dan Girardi had been the only two Rangers defensemen who had skated out in all twenty-one contests; from veteran Dan Boyle missing the start of the season with a broken hand to Kevin Klein sitting out for a foot injury, the team has been working with a partial blue line at best since Game one.

The Rangers had a rough start to the season; and although this afternoon certainly helped, it’s going to be a long road for the Rags. They sit in third in the Metropolitan Division even with this win, and their 24 points are good for either sixth or seventh place in every division beyond their own.

Hopefully, this afternoon was a sign of better things to come — although we aren’t sure what this means for the Broad Street Bullies.
