NFL Teams on Upset Alert in Week 13
By Pete Schauer
Check out which NFL teams are on upset alert in Week 13.
By betting odds, the Philadelphia Eagles’ impressive win over the division rival Dallas Cowboys was an upset, as the ‘Boys were three-point favorites at home on Thanksgiving.
Turkey day provided us more great action, with the Detroit Lions owning the Chicago Bears, and the Super Bowl-defending champion Seattle Seahawks taking care of the San Francisco 49ers inside the NFC West division.
There are a lot of divisional games this week–as we saw on Thanksgiving and will continue to see throughout the rest of the NFL Week 13 schedule–but I’ve decided to stay away from those games here, largely because I like all of the favorites in those games.
Take a look at two games where I think we can see potential upsets this weekend.

Buffalo Bills (-2.5) vs. Cleveland Browns
I’ll fully admit that I’ve been a Cleveland Browns doubter for the entire season, but I’m starting to come around on them.
Convincing wins this season against the News Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Cincinnati Bengals have me believing in the Browns–even on the road against a Buffalo Bills team fresh off a huge win against the New York Jets.
Cleveland boasts a winning record on the road, with its last two wins coming away from FirstEnergy Stadium, and Buffalo is only a .500 team on its home turf.
Brian Hoyer has been playing great football of late, but getting Josh Gordon back is a big reason why I think the Browns will come out with a win this Sunday.
At 6’3”, Gordon creates huge problems for opposing corners. He certainly didn’t have a problem reasserting himself into the offense last week against the Atlanta Falcons, hauling in eight receptions for 120 yards.
Getting back to Hoyer, aside from his three-INT game against the Falcons, he’s been able to manage games and take care of the football, and he’s been putting up some tough numbers lately.
The Bills do rank 5th against the pass, but their defense has yet to matchup against a dynamic wide receiver like Gordon this season, except for Calvin Johnson in Week 5. Look for Cleveland to make things a little more interesting in the AFC North following a win on Sunday.
Green Bay Packers (-3.0) vs. New England Patriots No two teams are playing better football in their respective conferences than the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots, and we’re in for a good one on Sunday afternoon. Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady are playing some of the best football of their careers, but the joke of the week has been that Patriots’ coach Bill Belichick doesn’t see many similarities between the two future Hall of Famers.
As much as I actually like the Packers here, I’m going to make a case for Tom Brady and the Pats, given how well they’re playing.
Green Bay has been rolling of late–winning three in a row–but New England enters this matchup having won seven games in a row.
The last time the Patriots lost a game was in September, and their last three wins have come against quality opponents (Broncos, Colts and Lions), whose records are a combined 23-11.
I know it’s been eons since Aaron Rodgers has thrown an interception at home, but the Pats have 12 interceptions on the season, and their defense is allowing only 19.5 points per game during this seven-game winning streak.
Rob Gronkowski has been a nightmare for opposing defenses, and now that New England has a power running game with Jonas Gray, Shane Vereen, and LeGarrette Blount, I think the Packers’ 30th-ranked running defense caves in.
In what I think is a preview of Super Bowl XLIX, I like the Patriots.
