With the Arizona Wildcats set to play in their first Pac-12 championship game Friday, wide receiver Samajie Grant was cited Saturday for suspicion of DUI.

The Arizona Wildcats clinched the Pac-12 South Division title with their 42-35 win over Arizona State Friday night, but the celebration was dimmed when it was learned starting wide receiver Samajie Grant had been cited on suspicion of DUI.

The Arizona Daily Star reported that Grant was cited early Saturday morning after he failed a field sobriety test, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Coach Rich Rodriguez said in a statement that Grant will not start Friday night against Oregon when the team plays for the Pac-12 title.

"“We were notified earlier today of an issue involving Samajie Grant. After communicating with Samajie, local law enforcement and our athletics administration, we’ve decided that the appropriate form of action is to make sure Samajie receives counseling and takes part in community-service activities.“We’re disappointed in Samajie’s decision-making, but we expect this to be an isolated incident and he won’t be starting in the Pac-12 championship game.”"

Grant, a sophomore from Compton, Calif., has 40 receptions for 645 yards and five touchdowns this season. He had four catches for 91 yards and two scores in the win over the Sun Devils.

Arizona (10-2) will be playing in its first Pac-12 championship game Friday against the Ducks at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

The Wildcats’ lone conference title since joining the then-Pac-10 in 1978 came in 1993, when Arizona finished 6-2 in conference play and shared the title with UCLA (which got the Rose Bowl bid) and USC.
