Three of the top four teams in last week’s rankings were in danger of losing this week as Alabama, Florida State and Mississippi State were tested by their rivals on Saturday, but only the Bulldogs from Mississippi State could not survive as the Ole Miss Rebels knocked off the No. 4 team in the rankings ensuring that a new team will be in Tuesday’s playoff rankings.
No. 1 Alabama survived against Auburn after the Crimson Tide had a strong fourth quarter to put away last year’s SEC champions and the No. 3 Seminoles overcame four interceptions from Jameis Winston to defeat Florida. Meanwhile, No. 2 Oregon had no difficulty against Oregon State in the Civil War and could be the team to beat this year for the national championship the way Marcus Mariota is playing and leading the Ducks.
With Mississippi State falling out of contention this week here is how Tuesday’s playoff rankings are projected to look heading into Championship Weekend.
TCU moves up from No. 5 to No. 4 and would play Alabama while Oregon would play defending champion Florida State.
Ohio State and Baylor are the first two on the outside looking in, but the playoff committee has a dilemma on their hands with the Buckeyes considering their Heisman hopeful quarterback, J.T. Barrett, is lost for the season after breaking his ankle on Saturday. Furthermore, Baylor lost their quarterback today as well as Bryce Petty left in the third with a concussion.
