Ohio State won The Game against Michigan but it came at a steep price as record-setting quarterback and Heisman hopeful J.T. Barrett was injured in the fourth quarter and had to be carted off with an air cast on his right leg

J.T. Barrett left the rivalry game against the Michigan Wolverines with a right leg injury that looked gruesome when ABC showed the replays during the broadcast and looked like his right ankle was broken and the possibility for more damage could have happened as he fought for extra yardage.

According to Tim May of of the Columbus Dispatch, the redshirt freshman quarterback suffered a dislocated right ankle and a probable broken bone.

UPDATE: Barrett will have surgery on Sunday to repair his fractured right ankle that will keep him out for the remainder of the season.

This is absolutely devastating for Barrett whose Heisman bid is all but over and Ohio State will have a difficult time beating either Wisconsin or Minnesota in the Big Ten Championship Game without their field general, so a berth in the College Football Playoff is certainly looking a little less optimistic than it would have had Barrett not suffered the heart-breaking injury.

Barrett was one of the best stories in college football this year, but we will have to wait until the 2015 season to see if there’s a happy ending in store for the talented signal-caller.

Cardale Jones will start at quarterback for Ohio State with Barrett sidelined for the rest of the season.
