Michigan State was eliminated from the Big Ten Championship Game race earlier this month, but that hasn’t stopped them trying to put a whooping on their opponents as they look to finish the season on a high note.
Their regular season finale against Penn State showed just that as R.J. Shelton took the opening kick 90 yards to the house to quiet the raucous crowd in Happy Valley as his return gave the Spartans an early 7-0 lead against the Nittany Lions.

On the ensuing possession, Ficken missed a 51-yard field goal as his first two kicks did not work out as desired for Penn State.
Michigan State took advantage of the short field and drove 47 yards in nine plays to set up Michael Geiger for a 36-yard field goal to extend Michigan State’s lead to 10-0.
At the time of publishing, Michigan State holds a 13-0 lead over Penn State at the beginning of the second quarter.
