According to Fox Sports, a source has said that Kentucky offensive coordinator Neal Brown will be Troy’s new head coach.
Troy’s current coach, Larry Blakeney, said earlier in the season that he intended to retire at the end of the season after 11 seasons with Troy. Neal Brown has worked as the offensive coordinator for Kentucky for the last two seasons, but he has some familiarity with Troy.

He worked as an assistant under Blakeney for four seasons with Troy, including two of the seasons as the offensive coordinator. He left to take a position as Texas Tech’s offensive coordinator in 2010.
Brown is 34 years old and would become the second youngest coach after Western Michigan’s P.J. Fleck at the FBS level. Some of the other names mentioned for the job included Virginia Tech assistant Shane Beamer, Cincinnati assistant Eddie Gran and Ole Miss assistant Matt Luke. Brown’s previous position at Troy was likely a big part of the decision made in his favor. During the last year he was an offensive coordinator at Troy, the team’s offense was ranked third nationally.
Brown went on to preside over three straight seasons where the Texas Tech offense was ranked in the top 15. He then went on to join Kentucky coach Mike Stoops’ staff. Unfortunately, Brown hasn’t had quite the same success in Kentucky after inheriting a depleted roster.
Troy finished Blakeney’s last season at 3-9. They went 178-113 overall in Blakeney’s 11 seasons as head coach, and went to five bowl games.
