Alabama took the lead in the Iron Bowl with 1:23 left in the first half. It took Auburn just 29 seconds to get the lead back, thanks to Sammie Coates.
Auburn wide receiver Sammie Coates is fast.
Alabama found that out firsthand late in the first half of the Iron Bowl at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday night.
Less than half a minute after Alabama had reclaimed the lead on T.J. Yeldon’s second touchdown run of the game, Auburn grabbed the lead back on a 68-yard pass play from Nick Marshall to Coates.
Coates finished the first half with four catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns and the Tigers had a 26-21 lead over the Crimson Tide, who came in ranked No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings.

Coates, a junior, came into the game with 25 receptions for 511 yards and two touchdowns, a total he doubled on Saturday.
Besides the 68-yarder, Coates had scored on a 34-yard pass from Marshall early in the second quarter.
Auburn had 383 total yards in the first half against an Alabama defense that came in ranked fifth in the nation, allowing 283.5 yards per game.
With three losses and a No. 15 ranking, Auburn is too far removed from the top four to even really be considered a long shot for a spot in the initial CFP.
But potentially taking Alabama out of a spot would be the next best thing for the Tigers.
