Alabama, ranked No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings, is looking for style points with a win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl.
The Alabama Crimson Tide—the No. 1 team in the land according to the 12 people who count, the members of the College Football Playoff selection committee—got off to a good start in the Iron Bowl against Auburn Saturday when junior running back T.J. Yeldon got them on the board first.
Yeldon scored on this nice little 8-yard run a little more than two minutes into the game.
Auburn started the game with a fumble by freshman running back Roc Thomas on his first Iron Bowl carry, with Alabama recovering at the Tigers’ 35.

Five plays later, Yeldon was in the end zone for a 7-0 lead.
The stakes are high for Alabama (10-1), even though they already clinched a berth in the SEC title game when Mississippi State lost to Ole Miss earlier Saturday.
A convincing win over Auburn, 8-3 and ranked 15th in the CFP rankings, could give the Crimson Tide some of those valuable “game control” marks upon which the committee appears to place a lot of value.
Going into the weekend, Alabama was No. 1, Oregon No. 2, Florida State No. 3 and Mississippi State No. 4, but the Bulldogs appear poised to fall after their 31-17 loss in the Egg Bowl.
