As they often do, Denver got on the board first. Peyton Manning connected with Demaryius Thomas on a 23-yard score a little more than six minutes into the contest.

The Broncos would extend their lead to 14-0 with 1:58 left in the opening quarter on a 15-yard pass from Manning to C.J. Anderson.

Denver had an opportunity to push its lead to three touchdowns midway through the second, but stalled in the red zone and were forced to kick a field goal, making it 17-0 with 7:14 left in the first half. The Chiefs responded nicely with a touchdown drive, scoring on a 20-yard pass from Alex Smith to Anthony Fasano.

However, the Broncos would knock in another field goal just before the half, sending Denver into the break up 20-7.

The two teams traded field goals in the third before the Broncos extended their lead to 26-10 with 14:44 remaining in the game on another field goal.

On their next drive, the Chiefs climbed back in the game with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Smith to Jamaal Charles. However, Kansas City failed on the ensuing two-point conversion. Denver kicker Connor Barth then connected on his fourth field goal with 7:33 left that ultimately put the game out of the reach.

Manning finished the game with 179 passing yards and two touchdowns. Anderson was the team’s top rusher with 168 yards on the ground and Emmanuel Sanders the team’s top pass-catcher with 73 yards.

On the other side, Smith threw for 153 yards, two touchdowns and an interceptions. Charles rushed for 35 yards and Travis Kelce led the way with 36 receiving yards.
