It’s not Super Bowl Sunday in America, however on Sunday in Canada, the most prestigious trophy in the Canadian Football League was decided, and when it was all said and done, the Calgary Stampeders captured the 2014 Grey Cup by defeating the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 20-16.
And if anyone had any doubts that this game meant a lot to the players on the field for Calgary and Hamilton, they were bringing the hits early, like this one that was applied to Hamilton’s Nic Grisby that sent the ball into mid-air.
Calgary would get the scoring started in this one with this one-yard scoring run from quarterback Drew Tate.
Just as the second quarter began and already holding a 7-0 lead, Calgary and Tate made Hamilton feel a little deja vu to take the 14-0 lead.
In capturing the Grey Cup on Sunday, Calgary really did get a complete effort from everyone, including the special teams.
At one point Calgary even held a commanding 17-0 lead, however as you can see by the final score, Hamilton was not going to go down without a fight.
With time winding down in the second quarter, former Cincinnati Bearcats quarterback Zach Collaros hit Brandon Banks on this 45-yard touchdown strike.
But in the end, Calgary had enough in the tank to hold off the comeback bid and walk away with the 102nd Grey Cup title.
