New England Patriots Cannot Keep Up In 26-21 Loss To Green Bay Packers

New England Patriots can’t come up with the necessary defense to stop Aaron Rodgers in a 26-21 loss

The New England Patriots may be one of the most powerful teams in the NFL, but even their defense is powerless against Aaron Rodgers and his passing routes as the Green Bay Packers extend their win streak to four.

Once again, the Packers established a considerable lead before the first half was even over; the Green Bay defense kept Brady and his offensive line completely scoreless for the first quarter, then maintained the wide lead margin established in those first fifteen minutes as they carried over into the final thirty of the game. With Rodgers recording a monstrous 348 passing yards on the game, New England didn’t stand a chance.

The closest the Patriots came to pushing the game into extra minutes (or having any hope of reversing the final outcome) came in the third quarter. A couple of much-needed breaks for the Patriots came in a scoreless third quarter, where they managed to finally begin shutting down Green Bay’s offense, but a fourth quarter that saw only one touchdown for New England solidified that this game was going to Green Bay. Even without the final three points the Packers added for good measure in the fourth, the Patriots were unable to regain the ground they lost early on in the game.

Although the Patriots obviously weren’t happy about ending a seven-game win streak, it’s important to note that Tom Brady and his team deserve a nod for holding their own against one of the most powerful teams in the NFL — in the iconic home stadium of said powerhouse franchise. Very few teams have walked out on Lambeau this season and walked back off with such a close score to boast, and the Packers have become well known for their drop-off in explosive effort in the final thirty minutes of every game. With such blowout scores, they’ve had yet to need all four periods of total dominance; this was one of the first games where fans saw the opposition posing any sort of significant threat, and the Patriots deserve credit for this.

Through it all, though, New England was sorely lacking in any kind of defensive coverage for Rodgers’ mammoth passing game; the score may have been close, but the more deserved team decidedly came out on top.
