Colt McCoy, not Robert Griffin III, started for the Washington Redskins on Sunday and impressed Jay Gruden so much that he’s ready to go bak to him next week.
When Robert Griffin III was replaced this week as starter for the Washington Redskins, the thought was that Colt McCoy would need to play one heck of a game to win the job for next week. As it turns out, all he needed to do was play decently in a loss to the Indianapolis Colts to win the job for a second straight week.

To his credit, McCoy didn’t play terribly, but he didn’t get Washington a win either. Still, it was enough to make head coach Jay Gruden impressed enough to want to give him the starting job next week as well.
While his decision isn’t official, as anything can happen in practice, Gruden indicated that Robert Griffin III would not be starting next week for the Redskins.
GRUDEN on @ColtMcCoy starting next week: "Yes. I feel like he competed and did a good job out there. He came back and gave us a chance. "

McCoy did a decent job of keeping the Redskins in a game where they were very clearly the lesser team. That’s not to say Robert Griffin III wouldn’t have been able to do the same but he hasn’t instilled much confidence either.
Griffin III may be done in Washington, but that’s a discussion for another day. For now, Colt McCoy is running things in Washington in a move that no one saw coming when the season began.
